We all know that the true meaning of the Holidays, regardless of what you celebrate and/or believe in, is about spending time with the people you love. It is about giving thanks and taking the time to celebrate life with family and friends. For some it truly is “the most wonderful time of the year” but for others it can be quite the opposite. Instead of being magical, it can add excess stress and heighten the pains and voids some are already facing in their everyday lives. One thing we must all remember throughout this holiday season is to be truly grateful for what we have and the importance of giving to those who are less fortunate than we. Sure we give gifts of all shapes and sizes to our family and friends but another opportunity of giving is within our very own communities!
Here at made with lemons we realize the importance of community – we wouldn’t be here without all of you – and we LOVE supporting local business’ who align well with our brand and our beliefs. So when GO PRODUCE INC. reached out and asked if we wanted to help raise awareness about a super amazing charitable initiative they were spearheading we had zero hesitations!
On the daily GO PRODUCE makes eating healthy easy by delivering locally grown, freshly picked produce straight to our front doors. (Check out how it works here!) And if this wasn’t awesome enough, this holiday season they have teamed-up with The Iron Kettle B&B’s Chef, Benjamin Leblanc-Beaudoin to create the W.E Care for Kids! Holiday Recipe Bag. This Holiday Bag comes complete with fresh, local ingredients and five easy to follow recipes to create a full holiday meal – including a dessert! The BEST part?! …100% of the proceeds will be donated to W.E. Care for Kids, an organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of children in Windsor and Essex County. The Holiday Bags (which feed four-six people) will be delivered straight to your door just before the holidays, allowing you to spend more time with your loved ones and less time at the grocery store.
For those of you who know us personally or maybe you could have guessed, we aren’t necessarily domestic goddesses. We attempt to impress our husbands and mother-in-laws but if we’re being honest with each other and ourselves: cooking isn’t quite our strong suit. And seeing as we’re being completely honest here, neither of us LOVE the idea of spending long hours in the kitchen so this sort of thing is essentially made for [us] lemons! (see what we did there?! 😛 ) Anyways, we grabbed ourselves a Holiday Bag to see exactly how foolproof it was…
First off we must say that we were super impressed by the overall presentation of the Holiday Bag’s ingredients. They all seemed super fresh and were locally sourced, which we love! With all things supplied we were able to create a lovely meal consisting of a starter salad, a main with two sides, and a dessert! One thing we particularly enjoyed was not having to create the actual menu or physically go to the store to collect any of the items. WIN, WIN!
There was a bit of prep work involved such as rinsing, chopping and measuring, not to mention a bit of time-coordination to ensure things were all done roughly at the same time, but you will have to deal with these sort of things with any meal you create at home. In short, you are given all the tools necessary to create the meal and all you must do is physically make it happen! This is a great option for someone who either doesn’t have the time for major prep-work or the culinary-skills to take on creating a full meal, but still wants to WOW their family and/or friends.
What’s better than feeding the ones you love whilst supporting your local community!? You are guaranteed to go to bed with not only a full belly but a full heart… now how awesome is that!!!? To learn more about the Holiday Bag or to order yours, click here!
Sincerely your friends,
Katie & Kristin
